VOLUNTEER CODE OF CONDUCT
As a volunteer with the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC), you are expected to maintain Islamically appropriate and professional conduct during the MAC Convention 2025, your volunteer shifts or activities, and/or when representing the organization in the community.
This Volunteer Code of Conduct aims to clearly communicate the required standards of behaviour while volunteering with MAC. We expect our volunteers to act respectfully, honestly, and Islamically while fulfilling their responsibilities, and in their interactions with our staff, fellow volunteers, and community members.
Obligations and Expectations
Volunteers are expected to follow the standards outlined in this code of conduct. Moreover, volunteers are expected to uphold Islamic etiquette, as well as maintain a professional image while representing the organization in public.
During their time at the Convention, volunteers must fulfill the following duties:
• Fulfill their assigned responsibilities at their assigned shifts
• Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative
• Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory or harassing behaviour and speech.
• Follow Islamic etiquette
In return, volunteers should expect the following:
• A complimentary pass for convention and meals
• Certificate for community service hours (for high school students) – upon request
• Rewards and blessings from Allah SWT
Inappropriate and disrespectful behaviour
If you witness these behaviours, you are required to notify your team lead immediately.
Attendance and Punctuality
The MAC Convention depends on you to arrive on time and present for your scheduled shift. We ask that if you know you will be late or absent, please notify your team lead as soon as possible.
To be eligible for a complimentary convention pass, you must commit to a minimum of three shifts and complete at least 6 hours per day of volunteering. Failure to meet this requirement will result in ineligibility to attend convention programs.
All volunteers are required to check in and out at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure accurate tracking of hours.
Please note: Shift hours may vary slightly from what is listed on this form. Volunteers are expected to follow the final schedule provided.

Confidentiality
During the course of their duties, volunteers will likely have access to, deal with, or become aware of confidential information and circumstances surrounding those we serve. This information must be kept strictly confidential. Any breach of confidentiality will result in disciplinary action up to and including the termination of volunteer services.

Dress Code
It is important that volunteers dress appropriately for their volunteer role so that they can fulfill their volunteer duty safely and comfortably.
Business Casual - please dress conservatively, cover your arms, wear loose pants or long skirts, and close-toe shoes. Sweatpants, Crocs, flip-flops, and inappropriate attire are not permitted.
Preference if you wear a Hijab, but not mandatory. We encourage our sister volunteers to wear a beige, peach or green hijab during the convention.
While there is no uniform, we will issue volunteer vests at the start of every shift to ensure our volunteer team is identifiable to the Convention attendees.
Please note:
- Accommodation and transportation are the responsibility of each volunteer. MAC Convention will not cover these expenses.
- Community service hour certificates will be provided upon request to high school students only.
- Respectful conduct between all volunteers is expected. Inappropriate interaction between genders will not be tolerated.
- Volunteers will be added to WhatsApp groups for shift coordination, important updates, and reminders. Participation in these groups is essential for smooth communication before and during the convention.
Breaches of the Volunteer Code of Conduct
By failing to uphold this code of conduct, the MAC Convention committee reserves the right to take disciplinary action. It is at the organizers' discretion whether to issue a warning or to terminate services as a volunteer. The MAC Convention team has the right to release or terminate volunteers at its discretion.
By signing this Volunteer Code of Conduct, I indicate that I have read, understood, and agree to uphold and abide by the outlined values. I also agree to accept consequences as a result of not following our Volunteer Code of Conduct.
