Dr. Abdullah Maarouf is an esteemed scholar and Assistant Professor at Istanbul 29 Mayis
University in Turkey, specializing in Islamic history, with a particular focus on the cultural and
historical significance of Jerusalem and its holy sites. He completed his undergraduate studies at
the University of Jordan, earning a bachelor’s degree in Theology and a master’s degree in
Jerusalem Studies from University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Maarouf earned his Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen, the only institution dedicated to
this academic discipline. His dissertation examined the strategic plan of the Prophet Muhammad
SAW to conquer Jerusalem. Additionally, he holds a license in the sciences of Al-Aqsa Mosque,
certified by Dar Al-Ifta in Jerusalem.
A pivotal figure in defending the rights and significance of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Dr. Maarouf’s
work emphasizes the site’s immense importance in Palestinian history and culture. He has been
vocally engaged in addressing issues related to Israeli control and encroachment on Palestinian
land and heritage. His research embodies an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary ethos,
developing many skills in historical study and engagement with Arabic and Islamic primary
sources.
