وَاخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ الذُّلِّ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
Al-Israa 24

The Western world tells us that we’re “adults” when we turn 18. But Islam has a different view. As soon as we hit the age of baligh—the moment we become accountable before Allah (SWT)—we’re also entrusted with responsibility, starting with our families. Whether we’re 15, 16, or 17, you’re more responsible than you think.
In this session, we’ll talk about what this responsibility really means. What does Islam say about youth and their role in the family? How does it compare to the expectations we see in the world around us? It’s not just about waiting until marriage to “grow up.” Are we living the responsibility Islam ascribes to us, or are we hiding in our shells for a few more years? Moreover, what are the responsibilities of young men and women, respectively? If we are to become changemakers of our ummah, we have to first learn to hold responsibility as youth within our families.
